Prime Video Debuts First Look Images for Bloodaxe, From the Vikings Creator
Prime Video has debuted first look images for Bloodaxe, a new eight-episode Norse saga from Vikings creator Michael Hirst and Horatio Hirst.

Prime Video has debuted first look images for Bloodaxe, its new original series from the creator of Vikings. The platform revealed the pictures on October 5, 2026, according to a press release published by The Futon Critic.
The series comes from showrunners Michael Hirst, who created Vikings, and Horatio Hirst. The release does not say when Season One will arrive, so axe-sharpening fans will have to wait for a date.
What Prime Video Confirmed About Bloodaxe on October 5
The release calls the series a "thundering, cataclysmic, compelling and utterly magical new Norse Saga." That is a lot of adjectives for one show, and it sets the tone Prime Video wants.
Season One runs eight episodes, and all of them will premiere exclusively on Prime Video in more than 240 countries and territories worldwide. Bloodaxe has also been picked up for a second season, which the release says is in production in Ireland.
The release places Bloodaxe among the series produced by MGM Television, a list that also includes Vikings: Valhalla.
Erik Bloodaxe, Gunnhild, and the Fight for Norway's Throne
Season One follows the rise of the Norse raider Erik Bloodaxe, played by Xavier Molyneux. At his side is his wife Gunnhild, Mother of Kings, played by Jessica Madsen. Together they fight for the throne of Norway.
The release says the conflict draws in the Kings of other Scandinavian countries and a powerful English ruler. It also promises rival factions, shifting loyalties and betrayals, so nobody at the feast table should relax.
The Cast and the Crew Behind the Saga
Beyond the two leads, the release lists Karlis Arnolds Avots, Levi Miller, Rod Hallett, Alina Tomnikov, Sisse Marie, Rune Temte and Jesper Christensen in the first season cast.
Michael and Horatio Hirst executive produce, showrun and write the series. The other executive producers are Morgan O'Sullivan of O'Sullivan Productions, Steve Stark of Toluca Pictures, Arturo Interian, John Weber and Sheila Hockin.

What the Bloodaxe Announcement Leaves Out
The announcement is short on practical detail. It gives no premiere date for Season One and no timing or episode count for Season Two. It also does not describe the first look images themselves.
Important Note: The only source for this report is Amazon's press release, as published by The Futon Critic. No independent confirmation or outside commentary was available, and the published text cuts off partway through the Prime Video boilerplate.
Next up is a premiere date, which the release does not provide. While Season One stays undated, our pieces on how Neagley connects to Reacher and shows like Lanterns offer other TV rabbit holes.
