The Russian survival thriller Free Fall, about a man drifting in open space, now has an official US trailer from Epic Pictures. The film lands direct-to-VOD in the US on October 27, 2026, and pre-orders are open, FirstShowing reports.

The setup is simple and a little brutal: one repairman, one broken suit, and a whole lot of nothing in every direction.

A Repairman, a Proton Storm, and a Dispatcher Named Anna

Free Fall follows Max, a repairman working on the giant orbital station Delta. A proton storm cuts him off from his crew, and he ends up drifting alone in space in a suit that has no communication.

He is not entirely on his own. A dispatcher named Anna guides him through the ordeal, though the synopsis notes that he does not know what she is up to.

The trailer leaves that thread dangling, and so will this report. Whether Anna is a lifeline or a problem is not something the available coverage answers.

Free Fall or Gravity? The Comparison Critics Reach For

If a stranded person tumbling through space sounds familiar, you are not imagining it. FirstShowing calls the film "basically a Russian copy of Gravity" in its write-up of the trailer.

The same report points to the one real difference: a second voice guiding the stranded character. Whether that twist is enough to set the film apart is something viewers will decide on October 27.

Important Note: The Gravity comparison is one outlet's take on the trailer. The reporting does not say how the finished film plays against it.

Who Made Free Fall and How It Was Shot

Oleg Urazaykin directs, making his feature directorial debut after one earlier short film. The screenplay is credited to Alexey Medvedev, Vladimir Stolbenko and Urazaykin himself.

Aleksandr Kuznetsov plays Maksim, the Max of the story. Anna Chipovskaya voices the dispatcher Anna, and Andrey Merzlikin is also in the cast.

The film was originally shot in 2021 on soundstages, using LED screens for "The Volume," the wraparound display technology that stands in for the void. In other words, the loneliest film of the season was made in a very busy studio.

The US release uses an English dub performed by a British voicecast.

From a 2023 Russian Opening to US VOD on October 27

According to FirstShowing, the film first opened in Russia in 2023 and was released internationally last year. The October 5, 2026 report does not say how it performed in either place.

Epic Pictures put out the new trailer in early October, and JRL Charts carried the announcement on October 2. The trailer on YouTube lists a digital release of October 27, 2026.

The reports do not say which platforms will carry Free Fall or what it will cost. For now, the date to remember is October 27, and anyone who wants another thriller that slipped past most viewers can read about Sean Bean's little-seen thriller while they wait.
